88.7 The Pulse Students and Staff Nominated For John Drury High School Radio Awards
The Pulse Radio students/staff in EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program were nominated
as finalists 17 times in 15 different categories at the 2023-2024 John Drury National High
School Radio Awards. The nominations were announced this morning, with the winners to
be unveiled during an awards ceremony on November 2, 2024.
EVIT ’24 graduate Jason Richey was nominated four times, for Best DJ, Best Sports Play-by-
Play, the new Student Leadership Award & for Broadcaster of the Year. To be eligible for the
Broadcaster of the Year award, students had to have submitted an entry in each of the news,
sports & DJ/specialty music show categories. Meanwhile, current EVIT senior Lenore Carey
is nominated in the Best Public Affairs Show category for her “Public Pulse” show that
spotlighted Make-A-Wish Arizona. Carey is also a finalist for Best Sportscast, Best PSA (for
Autism Awareness) and joins Richey in the Broadcaster of the Year category.
EVIT ’24 graduate Adam Beadle is a finalist for Best Sports Talk Show, while ’24 alum Nick
Banda was named as a finalist in the Best Promo category for his EVIT Expo promo. EVIT
grad Madelyn Hadley is a finalist for Best DJ. Current EVIT student Asa Lindsay & EVIT grad
Axle Borobia are finalists in the Best Talk Show (Non-Sports) category for “The I-Tech
Show.” In the Best Use of Video category, EVIT alums Nick Shultz & Diego Puga are
highlighted in a video featuring Pulse Records on Main, the state-of-the-art recording studio
that’s part of EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program.
Behind the social media team of former students Jocelyn Claudio Cortez, Suzet Macias Lopez
& Alyssa Munoz, The Pulse was nominated in the Best Use of Social Media category for their
“5 th Annual Senior Salute” on Instagram. And the station’s website, www.887thepulse.com,
is a finalist for Best Website. Radio/Audio Production instructor Dave Juday was nominated
for Best Radio Station Advisor. Lastly, 88.7 The Pulse is a finalist for Best High School Radio
Station, an award they won last year.
This is the sixth year that EVIT students have competed in the John Drury High School Radio
Awards, a national competition, presented by North Central College in Naperville, IL and
WONC-FM. In the previous five competitions, EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program has
won 15 awards, including Best High School Radio Station in 2020-2021 & in 2022-2023.
